About me and this project

My Background

Mac Games Database (MacGamesDB) was created out of a lifelong passion for gaming and my commitment to uncover the potential of gaming on macOS. My name is Pavel Békésky, and I have been a programmer for five years, mainly focusing on Microsoft technologies like .NET, C#, Vue.js, and Angular. My professional career spans two decades, but my love for computers and games started long before.

Early Gaming Experience

My journey into gaming began when I was six years old, playing on arcade machines. It quickly became a passion. Over the years, gaming has remained a constant in my life, from playing on the Atari 800 to the Amiga, which I still believe is the best machine ever created. Although I never fully embraced the PC and Windows ecosystem on a personal level, it fueled my professional work.

Returning to Mac platform

I have always preferred RISC over CISC architectures. When Apple introduced Silicon chips, I saw the perfect opportunity to return to a platform I believed in. Apple Silicon’s potential for gaming, coupled with tools like GPTK, Whisky, and CrossOver, demonstrated that gaming on Mac could finally become a reality.

Starting the YouTube Channel

With this in mind, I started a YouTube channel focused on performance reviews of games running on macOS. The goal was simple: to show how well games can perform on Apple hardware. However, I soon realized there wasn’t a centralized database showing how games perform across various Apple devices. Unlike the PC world, where performance metrics are readily available, the Mac gaming ecosystem was missing this crucial resource.

Creating the FPS Analyzer Tool

This gap in the market led to the development of the FPS Analyzer Tool. I wanted a way to collect real-time performance data—FPS stats, minimum, maximum, and average values—from games running on macOS. The FPS Analyzer Tool allowed me to gather this information and display it in simple, easy-to-read charts. This made it clear that the next logical step was to build a database where this data could be stored and shared with the community.

Launching MacGamesDB

I launched MacGamesDB with the aim of creating a comprehensive performance database for Mac games. Although still in its early stages, the platform offers immense potential to track how games perform on various Apple hardware configurations, resolutions, and settings. Our mission is to empower the Mac gaming community with valuable insights and help users make informed decisions about gaming on macOS.

A Community-Driven Project

Ultimately, this project thrives on the community’s enthusiasm. Together, we can grow MacGamesDB into a valuable resource for gamers who want to explore and optimize their gaming experiences on Apple devices.
